The position is at Newport Fab LLC dba Tower Semiconductor Newport Beach, Inc. Sustain, optimize, and improve semiconductor equipment performance and reliability in Dry Etch manufacturing area: Applied Materials Decoupled Plasma Source (DPS) Metal, Applied Materials DPS Poly, Applied Materials EMAX Oxide, Applied Materials MxP+ Oxide, Applied Materials MxP Poly, and Applied Materials Super-E platforms. Lead all maintenance activities on assigned equipment and provide technical guidance and assistance to area technicians on optimizing preventive maintenance. Eliminate reoccurring equipment failures by devising new approaches and developing solutions to complex problems. Work with Process, Production, Procurement, and Facility groups to achieve and exceed assigned goals in the areas of equipment availability, Mean Time To Repair (MTTR), and Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF). Work with equipment vendors or second source companies to modify parts and improve equipment performance. Evaluate new equipment and make recommendations to meet company’s business objectives. Support Process Engineering group on identifying opportunities to improve yield and maintain equipment process parameters within specifications. Identify and implement sustaining capital upgrades that can increase tool performance, with associated ROI justification. Assess process equipment assemblies and recommend/implement design changes focused on tool performance improvement. Ensure compliance with all ISO requirements and assist in developing new ISO procedures.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering (Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical) or a related field.
- 5 years of progressive experience in electro-mechanical systems operations and maintenance; experience must be in the electronics field
Work experience to include: - Five years of experience working with AC/DC circuits including applying fundamentals of electricity (voltage, current, resistance, and how they relate), and electronic components and circuits analysis to troubleshoot issues related to power supply on tools, problems caused by electronic boards, and problem resolution by component-level repairs.
- Five years of experience using Statistical Process Control (SPC) to monitor and analyze noise in radio signal theory which is also used in semiconductor tools
- Five years of experience partnering with other groups (Process Engineering, Yield, Industrial Engineering, Production, and Suppliers groups) on improvements and problem solving for production equipment in manufacturing area.
- Five years of experience in development of process Quality Control (QC) checklists.
- Five years of experience utilizing the following principles and techniques: Root Cause Analysis principles, FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) process and development, and process capability analysis.
- Two years of leading experience in production and service departments.
- One year of experience in monitoring and maintaining all of the following Applied Materials Tools: DPS Metal, DPS Poly, EMAX Oxide, MxP+ Oxide, MxP Poly, and Super-E platforms.
- Working with the following wafer fabrication equipment: LAM2300, LAM 4400, LAM4500, LAM9400, TEL Unity-ME SCCM, Axcelis Fusion Asher, and SPTS DRIE.
- Experience with equipment functionality, subcomponents, control circuit, and its process parameters; must include troubleshooting to component level in accordance with the principles of electronic theory and vacuum and pneumatics theory.
- Utilizing measurement instrumentations, electro-mechanical devices, vacuum systems, and Robotics/Sensors.
- Working with electrical circuits, motor control systems and test procedures in at least 2 production or test areas.
- Data analysis and evaluation of variables fundamentals; must include analyzing issues using SPC and Fab Guard monitoring systems.
- Working in a fabrication class 1 clean-room environment to fix and maintain Dry Etch equipment to prevent downtime and production loss (Applied Materials, TEL, LAM, KLA, and FUSION Etches).
- Reading technical prints, electronic schematics, and drawings specifications, including GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Troubleshooting and maintaining system architecture which includes the following data exchange protocols: TCP/IP, RS-232, RS-485, Modbus, I2C, SPI, and one-wire.
- Utilizing Lean Six Sigma principles to maintain equipment.
- Any and all experience can be gained concurrently.
- Must be able to work in a fabrication clean-room environment with repetitive motion.
- Position participates in 24/7 production incident on-call rotation upon request.

Wage range: $140,774.00 to $145,000.00 per year
