Job Description

Tower Semiconductor Newport Beach, an exciting and growing wafer foundry for state-of-the-art Automotive and wireless communications semiconductor products, is looking for a Quality Engineer. This is a customer and supplier facing role with internal quality systems responsibilities including Automotive, Quality Management Systems (QMS), Supplier Management, Continuous Improvement Plans, Customer satisfaction, 8D problem solving, Statistical Process Control, Change Control, and other quality systems listed below. The successful candidate will facilitate interactions with customers, suppliers, and internal teams. Strong communication skills and engineering judgment required. Successful candidate will be expected to develop internal/external networks, facilitate, lead, and solve complex problems.



This Job Is For You If


  • Interface with customer, internal Tower teams, and supplier teams to help drive quality regulatory requirements and quality baseline improvements
  • Support structured problem solving (8D, CAR), ensure proper change management, facilitate improvements to inline and tool controls (SPC, FDC), handle RMA's (Return Material Authorization) for customer quality concerns, and support Internal/external audits from customer and regulatory bodies to help build customer confidence and trust
  • Drive improvements on supplier related quality issues and drive solutions internally within Tower Semiconductor or externally with the suppliers
  • Manage supplier change requests, including risk assessments, qualifications, and approvals
  • Support Supplier performance management and assessment in collaboration with global supply management
  • Ensure immediate escalation, internal and/or at supplier in case of emergencies / excursions that impact production
  • Drive and assist suppliers with formal structured problem solving (8D analysis) for all incidents and excursions to address root cause/s
  • Lead or support supplier onsite audits to ensure, identify deficiencies in their QMS, and ensure timely closure of non-conformances
  • Drive continuous improvement projects working across organization to support and establish robust quality systems and business processes


Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering/science/technical area including materials science, chemistry, etc.
  • 5 years minimum experience in a semiconductor or similar manufacturing environment and 3 years minimum experience working in a quality engineering role
  • Sound understanding of SPC (statistical process control) and able to use in evaluation of supplier behavior and specification evaluation
  • Ability to drive structured problem solving and risk-analysis (FMEA) working closely with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and react to shifting priorities
  • Ability to work independently with minimal daily direction
  • Strong attention to details, organized and computer literate (MS PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
  • Knowledge of Lean Six-Sigma is an advantage
  • Ability and willingness to assist other local and quality team with their responsibilities when necessary
  • Travel: Minimal (<10%) although occasional external supplier audits may be necessary
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Physical Capacity Demands: Ability to work in mostly an office environment in front of a computer for long periods of time


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified ISO9001/IATF6949 Lead Auditor
  • ISO9001 Internal Auditor
  • Six Sigma Greenbelt certification
  • Semiconductor process experience across multiple commodities, with specific emphasis on CMP, slurries, and wafers.
  • Experience in quality engineering role
