Job Description

Make repairs, replacement parts, and special accessories for precision built machines and machine tools requiring machining and fitting to very close tolerances. Set up and operates all basic machine tools. Must be able to understand the interfaces in sophisticated machines and be able to troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatically controlled devices to determine the nature of problem and appropriate action. Train, assist, coordinate and/or assign priority tasks to lower labor grade personnel. Although the primary job of the Machine Maintenance Mechanic Specialist is to machine, fabricate and repair parts, the job also requires performing general maintenance and construction in support of Facilities Operations. Works with minimum supervision allowing freedom for independent action.

You can perform fhe following:

Work from detailed blueprints, manufacturer’s sketches and from measurements taken directly from machine.

Plan and determine sequence of work operations and methods to be used for machining and fitting of replacement parts, special accessories, and repairs requiring work to very close tolerances, for precision built mechanical machines and machine tools. Selects material to be used.

Lay out new or replacements parts on raw stock, using precision layout and measuring instruments. Make sketches, drawings, and other descriptions of replacement and repair parts, in rough, for own use.

Set up completely and operate all standard machine tools and fabrication machines, such as engine lathes, milling machines, boring mills, planers and precision grinders following safety and housekeeping standards. Make tolerances for precision built machines and machine tools.

Make functional tests, or assist other personnel in tests of precision parts fabricated or repaired after installation in machine or machine tool to insure safety of operation. Check performance and accuracy of parts. Make necessary or desirable adjustments and changes. Use precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, surface, depth and height gauges. Must understand and be able to troubleshoot and isolate problems in the hydraulics and pneumatics in order to isolate and repair such devices.

Make routine, periodic or special inspections and do the repair and maintenance work necessary to prevent breakdowns on many types of equipment as assigned. Analyze inspection logs to identify possible equipment failures and take action to prevent failure. Required to do general maintenance and construction work. Train, assist, guide and/or perform the duties of lesser skilled personnel in the Plant Services operations.

Maintain current department tool list for this classification within thirty (30) working days after assignment.

Perform arc and tig welding tasks (including poly-welding) operations incidental to above tasks.

Maintain safety and housekeeping standards.

 

Job Requirements

Must have completed A.S. in a related field or have six years equivalent experience as described above and have passed the in-house evaluation process of practical application and oral review. 

In order to hold this classification, must have successfully completed the training program for the licensing of implant mobile equipment operators and remain a holder of an active operator’s permit, Form 54-
